The software-as-services (SaS) model continues to attract customers who are eager to achieve new levels of cost savings, integration and control over their enterprise applications. The SaS model is not new, of course. Many current SasS vendors were formally known as application service providers (ASPs)and have extolled the virtues of online applications since the 1990s. At that time, however, many corporations considered the online delivery of applications to be inadequate for their needs. Today, the model has matured to the point where all types of companies—from large, multi-national corporations to regional and midsize fi rms—are exploring how leveraging the SaS model to access software-powered services can ultimately contribute to higher returns on their technology investments and increased productivity.
